Centauri Personalities
|
Head of House Mollari, Londo was groomed since early childhood for a life at court. Yet he never
dreamed he would one day succeed as Emporer of the Centauri.
His stationing to Babylon 5 as ambassador of the Centauri was intended to be more of a slap on the
wrist, instead it tossed Mollari into the midst of the developing struggle between Shadow and Vorlon.
The Centauri, unkown to themselevs, have been selected by the Shadows as fulcrum from which to launch
their subversive attacks. During the years of armed conflict in which most of the galaxy joins one
faction or the other, The Centauri are one of the key agressors who sustain and nourish the
prolonged fighting.
Although Mollari rises in the hierarchy of court, his increasing might is subsequently hollowed out
and becomes more perfunctory the higher he climbs. Finally, sitting on the throne he is fully under
control of outside forces and utterly unable to even cringe at the actions perpetrated in his name.
After 17 years of carrying the burdens of being an emperor, he is succeeded by his one time aide and
companion, Vir Cotto.

Initially assigned to Londo Mollari as personal attache, Vir Coto evetually develops a friendship
with his superior. Being a naturally wamhearted person, he tends to act, to the complete and
utter exasperation of Londo, as his masters conscience, voicing all his misgivings Londo himself
would rather not hear.
Once Mollari is promoted in the ranks, Vir is appointed ambassador to Babylon 5, in effect replacing
Mollari as he leaves to take up his posting on the homeworld.
Unfortunatly, it seems Vir must follow where Londo leads, and after Mollari has achieved the
exalted position of emporer of the Centauri, Vir will succeed him after his death almost
two decades hence.
It can only be supposed that Vir Coto the First will establish a new dynasty that will return
the Centauri to the path of truth and wisdom.

Born into slavery, Adira scored quite an overkill in her attempt to seduce Londo Mollari in order
to steal valuable documents fromn him, as he fell irrevocably in love with the radiant Centauri.
Seperated again from Londo by necessity, the individual moments of chance encounters are always rays
of light visibly boying Londo's spirits in his grey surroundings.
It is her tragic death that subsequently leads to the Centauri redoubling their war efforts in the
Shadow War, when Londo as one of the two key leaders drops into a deep well of despair in the face
of his loss.

Emperor of the Centauri, Cartagia should more aptly have been commited to the sanitorium.
Being patently schizoid, Cartagia was the ideal puppet emporer for the powers behind the
throne, as long as they did not mind his intermittent callousnes and occasional atriocities he
periodically commited on the Narn and even his own population.
Given that said powers did not much care about the welfare of these people, Cartagia staid in
power until his assasination at the hands of Vir Cotto, to be succeeded by the next shortlived
and half crazed emperor.

A powerhungry and ruthless Centauri, Lord Refa is aristocracy at its most malevolent.
He is one of the chief instigators of the brutal enslavemant of Narns, and fittingly meets his death at
the hands of an mob of enraged Narns deep beneath the surface of Narn.
He is also responsible, though only indirectly, for the prolonged contiuation of the shadow war, when
Morden has Lady Adira murdered blaming Refa, thereby destablizing Londo Mollari.

Emporer of the Centauri, well advanced into old age, Emporer Turhan rules well and wisely.
On his goodwill visit to Babylon 5, in which the diplomatic hand of friendship and interspecies
support is supposed to be given in gesture, he suffers a fatal stroke, leaving his quite unbalanced
nephew Cartagia as principle heir to the throne.
At the moment of his death, hostilites between the Narn and Centauri flare once more in the interstellar
night, a harbinger of the growing conflict to follow.
